Re: Major changes here!
Thanks NG! Your name shortens nicely. Mine, however, is totally appropriate for this forum! If I had only known...
I will post and share my experience. Fingers crossed, toes crossed, etc. It just HAS to work!
Now off to prepare for the week - grocery store, laundry, schedules posted, etc. I can't wait to do all of these things pain-free!
Anna

Re: Major changes here!
Hey Cherylk,
Good to hear it about your husband's cough, still enough to keep you up for a bit though I guess?
I haven't started the prep just yet, my appointment is for 7 AM Thursday morning and it's 12:30 AM here right now. The only information I got was that I shouldn't eat for one day prior to the procedure, so I figure that gives me another 6 hours or so to stuff myself a bit more before I officially begin prepping
I've eaten more today than I have on any given day for the last half year or so since I'm not looking forward to starving tomorrow.
I also kind of wonder how the prep is going to so since it involves bisacodyl tablets plus a big jug of some other laxative that looks to be largely polyethylene glycol (same stuff as Miralax) based. Since I already take a daily dose of Miralax every night, I wonder if the prep solution is going to do anything that my daily Miralax dose isn't doing already. Guess we'll see I guess. I've never taken bisacodyl or any other stimulant laxative before so that'll be an ummmm interesting experience.

Good luck Anna! Praying for you.
NG, the prep solution will definitely be doing stuff that your daily miralax dose doesn't do. Sucking on a jolly rancher after I took a drink of it really helped me get that stuff down! Just no red ones!

Re: Major changes here!
Funny how I have had other major surgeries and this one is the only one that is scaring the heck out of me! I cannot wait to be home and recovering! A million thanks to everyone who has shared their stories, their ups and downs, and how they are coping with this. It has saved me! You guys are all so awesome! A few more hours and then I go in...
NG - I did my last colonscopy about 4 weeks after this fissure showed up. Bringing home that big jug to drink and explaining it to my teenage boys caused more laughter with them then I thought was possible. It's amazing the things that are funny to them!
Just remember that Katie Couric did her prep on tv! I will never forget seeing her salt the rim of her glass as she downed that stuff. It was must-see tv, that's for sure!
It tastes pretty bad, but it has definitely improved from what it was 20 years ago. At least it's moving in the right direction! Hopefully they'll be able to rule out other problems you could have by doing this. It's always reassuring to know that you "only" have an AF!
(like that doesn't affect your whole lifestyle!)

Re: Major changes here!
Thanks Jo and Anna! Starting the prep in about an hour here. We just got a call from the pediatrician that our H1N1 vaccine is finally in so I'm going to head out and get that first and then come back for my hours of joy on the toilet
Hope all went well today Anna.

Hey Jo, just wanted to say, alright, I know what you mean by the prep solution doing stuff my daily Miralax doesn't now. Oh man do I understand now, and I'm not even halfway through the solution.
I already puked once when the bisacodyl tablets first kicked in (felt like massive cramps that shot from my abdomen all the way up to my mouth), and now that's calmed down a bit and I'm chugging the prep solution. It doesn't taste too bad (kind of like syrupy water) but it feels like my anus has spring a leak. The fissure definitely doesn't like it, I can't even really use toilet paper at this point, just jumping in the shower and rinsing every few minutes... Sheesh, now I know what folks mean when they say the procedure itself isn't bad compared to the prep. Or it better not be!

Re: Major changes here!
NG,
Tomorrow will be easy! You just get to relax and take a little nap.
You are about done with the hard part. Hopefully you are close to the bathroom
.
Take care...
