MLS -

I am so glad you have healed! And it is coming up on a year too! How wonderful!

Thanks for sharing your story. I love to hear stories about people healing on nitro, because I have been on it for almost 3 months and it truely has been a God send for me. The nitro stories help me realize that people can and do heal naturally. However, I am done with this. If I get off the nitro and my AF returns - I will make an appointment for LIS that same day!

When you said you ate the wrong things that contributed to your setbacks, what exactly was it? Can you pinpoint something in particular you did or were you just starting to go back to old habbits?

Jen,

How long do you plan to stay on the nitro?

Cheryl -

I have no idea! I feel better but I am so scared to get off of it. I have about 5-6 weeks worth of the nitro left, so I will use that and see how it goes after that. Also, I still have a full tube of nifedipine I plan oon using just for the hell of it after I get off the nitro. How long do you plan on using the creams? My doc said he has had patients stay on them for 8 months. He also said there are no toxicity levels or adverse reactions from staying on them for too long.

Jen,

Feel free to PM me if you ever wish. I don't want to use the ointment if not necessary. I have cut down to about twice daily as I was using it b/4 "going" also in addition to twice daily. I am in my third month of using and have just started my second tube. I think one can develop a sensitivity to it (depends on the person), and I don't want that to happen to me. I doubt there is a toxicity level; I just don't want to develop a sensitivity to something that has worked if you know what I mean.

Cheryl -

Thanks! Smile Your such a sweet person!

How many times a day were you taking it originally? I have always taken my nifedipine & nitro 2 times a day. I see others on the board use them more - some use it 3-4 times a day. I think your right about the sensitivity. I think someone on the board had this happen to them. I think I will take my chances though. I took the nifedipine for 2 months. During this time, I did not notice a big difference with my anal tightness (it really did not relax the area). However, the day after I got off the nifedipine, I had my last setback. This makes me really scared to get off the nitro, despite the fact it works better for me. I think I will use what I have left, and then get off it.

Jen,

I posted info about my trip to Hawaii for you on another thread.

My CRS doc recommended 2 x's daily which I did for several weeks until lately I started using it prior to BM's primarily (2-3 x's daily). Your doc must have given you an unlimited Rx for the ointments?? I can understand your concern about getting off of the ointments if you had a setback! I am not sure if we continue to have a tight sphincter after fissures have healed.

Jen, Too much sugar and not enough fiber. My setbacks were at a party each time. The last one was our wedding anniversary, Sept. 8th, and the next morning, bad BM. I eat for my blood type and that helps. I learned to stick to the plan and have not had a set back since. MLS

Cheryl, Tabby & everyone -

Vasaline? I must have missed that thread...what does that do? Lubricate everything on the way out? I have heard vasaline harbors bacteria, but I guess that does not matter considering there is so much bacteria down there in that area! Wink

I do not have an unlimited supply of refills. Sad I am finishing my 3rd tube, which means 3 months, since each tubes lasts a month. I asked my CRS for one more month, so he just gave me another. He said to call him back if I want more, but in his opinion, he thinks a couple more weeks should do the thrick. He says his clients uaually stay on the nitro for 3-8 months. The nitro is actually his own made up formula he calls the super nitro. It has A&D ointment, an antibiotic (like neosporin), lidocane, and nitro in it. He swears by this formula. I have to agree with him because it works ALOT better than the nitro for me.

Keep up with the healing process MLS! No more straying at your parties! silent

Jen - vaseline protects the area from irritation - chafing, soaps, etc. It is base for all those creams that we use (Nitro, Nifed. etc.) so if it can harbor bacteria than all of those creams can LOL. I never heard of bacteria that can live of crude oil derivate - did you, ha ha - we would be in BIG trouble - I mean, gas prices would skyrocket !!!

I use now A+D cream mixed with Aloe gel and some vaseline. Before that I used A+D +aloe+nifed.+vit E. , so maybe your doctor was reading my posts Wink ?!? Just joking - I am so glad that it all works so well for you - just stay on it all as long as you need and all will be fine cheers !

Jen,

Sounds like you have a good doc! I like the idea that he adds in the lidacaine as I think that helps with pain. My ointment is compounded, so that could be added to it.

I have no idea where I read the bit about the bacteria - I just remember thinking it was weird since our poo is full of bacteria an not sterile anyway. I may actually try the vasoline, as long as gas prices stay down! Smile

Fiss - where do you get your A&D mixture? Do you compound it yourself in your "lab"? Smile

Tabby - A&D cream is a cream that has vitamins A&D in it. It is sold in the baby isle next to all the diaper creams. It is mixed with my nitro and I also use it on my son between diaper changes.
