I started taking stool softeners (Docusate Sodium), eating lots of fiber, drinking lots of water, taking warm baths, and using Prep-H and even K-Y before BMs, but the situation didn't seem to improve. I don't think I'm putting too much but, just in case, I'll start using less. I was told to take a "pea-sized" amount, so I basically put a thin coat on the top part a finger cot that I visualize is about the same volume as a pea. One month ago I had horrible pain and thought it was my hemorrhoids. My family doc sent me to a Hemorrhoid Treatment Center. They tried to do an exam and I about jumped off of the table it was so painful. They gave me cream to use with Nif in it. I used it for a few days and it did not help relieve pain. That weekend I ended up in the ER with severe pain and suffering from lack of sleep. This was worse than childbirth, worse ... Summer is not bad as long as I don't (which is hard to do)sweat.At a 100 degrees getting sweat down there was downright painful and really itchy and I hated it.Got the taste of the cold weather last week and today,my fissure would sting a little and my butthole would tighten up from the cold wind and make me walk funny.I live in socal so winters don't get super cold here but so far I think the cold is more bearable.I might change my mind though when winter comes around and the temp dips below ... I am new to the boards, although have been using the site for many months now for advice etc. A summary of me is that I have a chronic AF and have had for the last 16 months - it started just after the birth of my second child. I live in the UK. I have tried all the creams, on a very high fibre diet, take about 100mls of lactulose a day, don't eat red meat etc etc. I had first lot of botox in March of this year, it worked for a while but then the AF came back with avengence over ... I take one dose of miralax and eat more fiberous foods than a giraffe, and my stools have been nice and soft and I haven't bled for a week, and the pain during and after BM is very mild. I just got a bottle of nifedipine. so that should help out too. My questions now are: Does the Miralax ever lose its effect and force the user to "up" the dosage? and also, what does the nifedipine help with? one more thing...
