Hi everyone

Since suffering with fissures for the last 5 years I have recently been told I've healed with Diltiazem. I still have serious doubts as to whether I can be healed permanently without surgery.

I had surgery to remove two skin tags last wednesday. I was given a codeine based pain killer and sent home.

Guess what they failed to mention...yes...surgery + general anaesthetic + painkillers = constipation

Fantastic!!! Exactly what you need when recovering from fissures! ...

I apologize to everyone that I have not been around and have not given much support lately. Yes, I have been sick of late, and extremely busy working 1 and 1/2 jobs. We have all lost good friends here this year.

I have found it hard to be here lately. I have been trying to support "strangers" with their butt troubles for three years and for the longest time lately, I found myself just unable to find words of support. So I gave up. I was burnt out, you all. It happens. ...

Hello All!

I can't say how happy I am to find this support board. I really am struggling with the pain of my AF but reading all of the great advice on here is really just, well, a huge relief! I'm generally very healthy, have a full life and enjoy doing lots of exercise. Just can't believe how struck down in pain I am though.

I've read some of the general information stickys but I have a few questions which I'd be hugely grateful if anyone could answer...

Hi to the group

I am new here and I am so pleased I have found this website.

Anyway I suffered from AF for 6 months which I developed due to childbirth and tried all kind of ointments, creams, suppositories, tons of water, fibre you name it but nothing ever helped so I had LIS and skin tag removal on August 4th.

I was pain free after 3 days and 8 weeks after surgery my CRS said that my fissure had healed. But 2 weeks later after that I came on the period (this was the first period I ...

That DID NOT work and so I had just the LIS again in August with a CRS. Things were a little bit better after the second surgery but today I had two BM's and feel like I've ripped completely back open and the toilet was filled with blood. All I can do is sit here and sob. I'm only in pain when I go to the bathroom and I just feel sore down there the rest of the time. Here's the ...

First off, can I just say that the right doctor makes ALL the difference in the world! My new dr. is the 3rd one I've talked to about this problem and he is so great. Confident, reassuring, and frankly, most importantly, he knew what he was doing!

Hey all,

So I'm getting an abdominal and pelvic CT scan with contrast on Friday. The contrast material is a big bottle of barium sulfate. Does any have experience drinking (and more to the point, passing) barium sulfate while having an active fissure?

I drank barium sulfate for an upper GI test over ten years ago and remember pooping it out as hard chalky stuff, so I'm a little concerned. But my memory is a bit fuzzy on the details as I didn't have a fissure at that time.

One day in late August, I started having sharp pain during BMs and intense dull pain that would peak about three hours later and only get tolerable about six hours after that. I started taking stool softeners (Docusate Sodium), eating lots of fiber, drinking lots of water, taking warm baths, and using Prep-H and even K-Y before BMs, but the situation didn't seem to improve. It took me over two weeks to get in to see a specialist, during which I could hardly function because of the discomfort. ...

talks about the role of nitric oxide and wound healing. nitric oxide pills can be bought any vitamin shoppe, etc. it causes blood vessel expansion. only downside is (imo) that it could potentially increase bleeding. im thinking of giving it a try. ill post about it if i do. soooooooo yeah. the extra blood volume means more nutrients to muscles and skin. maybe it could help. im at my wits end with this stupid wound

It was strange because I had no pain until April 09, after which I became EXTREMELY worried and had a colonoscopy/endoscopy.
So i've been dealing with this whole AF thing since early april. It came to a boil in july and have been to the doc a few times.

i had some internal hemorrhoids taken care of but the itching and burning wasnt going away. Ive been on three different creams. a pink one, a hydrocortisone and a nitrate. none have worked and the area has become more irritated and worse than when it started.

after getting a clean bill of health from my colonoscopy we now are concentrating on the AF(s).

Aspirin effects on fissure, hemorrhoids?

I've found that aspirin is the only pain med that helps me with hemorrhoids. I've gotten the impression that the blood thinning effect has helped them heal faster, but I'm not sure if that's really the case. I'm not sure how it would affect fissures. Anyone have any idea how taking apirin really affects these conditions?

I've tried all the usual tricks, e.g., put him in his swing, feed him, change his diaper, try to burp him, etc., to no avail. He's still crying furiously, waving his fist around, and arching his back. He's getting himself so worked up that his head is all sweaty.

Well just thought I'd follow up and let you folks know how my colonoscopy went -- in a nutshell, it was incomplete, so I'm pretty bummed.

I went in, they put the IV in and administered Versed and Fentanyl, both of which I've had for other conscious sedation procedures before, so I was feeling pretty comfortable at that point. I largely conked out due to the sedative and didn't feel the doctor pump air into my colon or insert the endoscope. So far so good. Then, at some later point (felt ...

So I thought my fissure was calming down for a while, but lately it's been acting up again -- some pain and bright red bleeding during BMs (relatively minor but consistent and noticeable) has returned. I'm not sure if it's acting up due to recent dietary changes (more junk foods) or drug regimen changes (I stopped all nitro/nifedipine ointments for a week and have been reducing my Valium dosage because I noticed that I'm becoming dependent on it), but whatever the reason, it's got ...

Hi all,

I just got two Botox injections today and my CRS did it without sedating me. All she did was put some topical analgesic around the area first. It wasn't done in an operating room, either, just in the doctor's office.

I did some reading through the archives and this seems atypical. It seems that most people were sedated for the procedure and had it done in the operating room.

Has anyone ever gotten Botox injections without being sedated first? I'm curious as to whether ...

I wanted to know if there is anyone out there who is noticing the same, since keeping the stool soft is one of the fundamentals of healing AF.

You might find the idea of going without toilet paper a bit shocking, but lots of people around the world do it, and there are good technologies available now to replace your toilet or add on to it. It is cleaner and healthier, and saves a lot of water -- making a roll of toilet paper uses 1.5 pounds of wood, 37 gallons of water and 1.3 KWh of electricity.

But the food was great, and we enjoyed our shore excursion and shopping on the Grand Cayman Islands and also at Cozumel. My digestive process was just fine, and all of the fresh fruits and vegetables ...

Has anybody ever tried this to help the anus stretch with more ease?

Here's a link about collagen.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and this is my first posting. Over the past month I have read many of the postings and have found them most helpful, both mentally and practically. Briefly, I have had a chronic fissure for about 20 months and have had two lots of LIS surgery, one 12 months ago and the other 7 months ago. While the second one resulted in the sphincter muscle becoming more relaxed, I still get pain for most of the day, paricularly when walking. I thought if i totally ...
