Hi everyone

Since suffering with fissures for the last 5 years I have recently been told I've healed with Diltiazem. I still have serious doubts as to whether I can be healed permanently without surgery.

I had surgery to remove two skin tags last wednesday. I was given a codeine based pain killer and sent home.

Guess what they failed to mention...yes...surgery + general anaesthetic + painkillers = constipation

Fantastic!!! Exactly what you need when recovering from fissures! ...

Hi to the group

I am new here and I am so pleased I have found this website.

Anyway I suffered from AF for 6 months which I developed due to childbirth and tried all kind of ointments, creams, suppositories, tons of water, fibre you name it but nothing ever helped so I had LIS and skin tag removal on August 4th.

I was pain free after 3 days and 8 weeks after surgery my CRS said that my fissure had healed. But 2 weeks later after that I came on the period (this was the first period I ...

I've posted on here a couple of times awhile ago. I had LIS and a fissurectomy in April with a general surgeon. That DID NOT work and so I had just the LIS again in August with a CRS. Things were a little bit better after the second surgery but today I had two BM's and feel like I've ripped completely back open and the toilet was filled with blood. All I can do is sit here and sob. I'm only in pain when I go to the bathroom and I just feel sore down there the rest of the time. Here's the ...

I just thought I'd give an update on how things are going on Day 6. In one word - awesome. I have not felt this good in years, truly it's been years. First off, can I just say that the right doctor makes ALL the difference in the world! My new dr. is the 3rd one I've talked to about this problem and he is so great. Confident, reassuring, and frankly, most importantly, he knew what he was doing!

To summarize - pain level is zero, itching is sometimes a MINOR annoyance but very minor ...

So after a year with my fissure, I'm having surgery this coming Tuesday, and I'm crazy nervous. The only "surgery" I've ever had before was getting my wisdom teeth removed, and that did NOT go smoothly. 4 dry sockets...ugh.

Anyway, they haven't called me yet to tell me what to do before the surgery and so on, so I'm just wondering - what's some good advice on how to deal with recovery? Should I be doing anything specific before/after that the doctor might not tell me, but that ...

My CRS said that I have 3, yes count them, 3 good-sized fissures. He said it's "highly unusual" and was concerned about Crohn's disease but thought that it might be anal stenosis/anal stricture. Anyone heard of that? I haven't had time to google it. Anyway, I'm just resting, drinking tons of water, and about to take my 800 mg of ibuprofen. Thanks for ...

So things HAD been going pretty good with my AF. Soft stools, pain at a level ZERO sometimes, little to no bleeding, - I figured I had some great healing going on and life would soon be back to normal. Well, over the weekend I had a major setback. Lots of pain, spasms, bleeding, and what felt like a giant re-tear. I called the CRS today and went in. They said that the fissure is a lot bigger, with external hemmies, skin tags and serious damage. The NP was shocked that I was able to handle ...

Hello everyone,

I'm back from my second surgery, which was a little less than 24 hours ago. I don't think I, or anyone else on here, expected me to need another.

It's been awhile since I posted, so here's a refresher on my story: I had LIS, fissurectomy and skin tag removal back in December. The recovery wasn't terrible, and I never took the prescribed pain killers. I was out and about within days, and even took a cross-country road trip about a week and a half after the surgery. A ...

A little of my background. I originally tore open my fissure back in July, 2005 (I'll never forget that dreaded day). I suffered with it for a few months before breaking down and seeing my family doctor. After trying suppositories, etc. My family doctor referred me to a Colon Rectal Surgeon. He diagnosed me with an Anal Fissure in early '06. I was prescribed Nifedipine and tried that for a few months but with no luck. I then scheduled LIS and when I was about a week before the scheduled ...

I am curious how bad it is...I know a hemmhoroidectomy is bad recovery wise but how rough is excision of just one? It's looking more and more like I will need that on top of my LIS weds at the same time and it's starting to worry me. I'm just hoping it isn't worse than the fissure pain because I'll go absolutely insane with a double whammy. Then again it would still beat having two separate procedures I guess.
I'm very upset. Just got back from the CRS, a follow up from my LIS surgery almost a year ago. My fissure healed but I was still having pain and spasms sometimes. Turns out it's what the CRS called a mild stenosis from an old surgery and when I have a bm the area doesn't stretch much at all so I still get mini tears on occassion and they cause pain until they heal. So I'm getting to the point where I'm strongly leaning toward having LISfor my fissure. My wife and I are having twins in mid-late September and I want to be at least somewhat okay by that time so that I am useful.
Well it’s been nearly a week now and I admit I’m a little scared at this point. It’s been a rough ride and I’m having trouble staying positive.

First problem is that I can’t stop pooping! Saturday I went 12 times, yesterday 6, today I’m already at 5 and it’s only 3PM. My water bill will probably be $300, as I'm taking a bath after every BM.

I admit I used to be a fast food junkie, I rarely ran into a vegetable, almost no fruit, and definitely no fiber substitutes – but I was always ...

The materials they gave me about post-operative issues scares the crap out of me (no pun intended).

I'm unclear as to when I'll be able to walk around normally, how many weeks before I can go to the gym. I know I'm thinking way too far ahead, but it's part of my ...

Eight weeks ago I had a fissurectomy and hemmoroidectomy. It was tough the 2 weeks post surgery, but I felt pretty good at three weeks. I have a strenuous, outdoors job and I was back to work and doing pretty well. The last two weeks, however, I feel like I have stopped healing and may have even reinjured myself. I'm bleading, it hurts after a BM, and there is a good amount of discharge. I've been trying Aleve, Ibuprofen, etc. and nothing seems to work. I'm tempted to call my ...

Hello,

I apparently got a fissure back in January and have had it since. The docs kept telling me it was hemmorhoids but I kept going back because a couple hours after using the bathroom I'd be in so much pain I couldn't think straight enough to just lie on the floor and watch TV. Finally about 6 weeks ago my GI took a look and said it was a fissure and put me on nifedipene and told me to contact a surgeon. He said I wouldn't necessarily have to have surgery but I should consider it.

Can a chronic fissure ever heal without surgery? Also I am wondering about LIS and childbirth. Can it increase risks of incontinence if you give birth to a child vaginally after having LIS?
Hi everyone,

I won't restate the whole story because it's in my earlier posts. But I had LIS, fissurectomy and skin tag removal a little less than three months ago.

My last trip to the doctor was somewhat reassuring at least while I was there, because he says I'm healing -- just a little slower than usual. He says there's no sign of infection or fistula, the wound is clean, and he's never had to re-operate after doing thousands of these procedures. Still, he insisted on using the scope, ...

I have not had a very good recovery. I was told to eat lots of 'soft foods', mainly pasta, and to use metamucil. I did not have a BM for 8 days after surgery and when I did pass, I had the most ungodly spasms! I also ...

It's been about two months since I had my LIS, skin tag removal and fissurectomy. Those of you who read my earlier posts know the first few weeks of recovery went very smoothly -- I never took the prescribed painkillers, didn't bleed, went back to work after four days, and wasn't in much discomfort. Then again, I wasn't in much discomfort before the surgery compared to a lot of the stories I've read here.

It's a mixed bag at this point. I was honestly hoping to have put ...

Well....Jan 21rst is the date. I don't know how I'll make it another month....but I guess I've already gone 4.5 months. I'm also terrified....absolutely terrified!

I had an appointment with my CRS last Thursday and when he told me I wouldn't be able to get this done before the New Year I had a major meltdown.....I mean major. I told him some days are so bad that when I go to sleep at night I hope I don't wake up in the morning. My husband and baby were with me for the appt. He called ...

I'm back from my appointment with my CRS.

He is such a nice guy, very relaxing personality... We sat there for quite a while discussing the situation, more Botox, surgery, etc. etc.

We finally decided on LIS, he will do the surgery on me...no date yet, but as soon as possible. I am relieved, even though I know that LIS might not be an easy fix. I also think about what might go wrong, but I just couldn't go for more Botox...2 more months and than retearing again.

Thank you Cheryl, ...

I think I read in one of your posts that you or your doctor considered doing LIS without GA? Is that correct? Would you be awake then? Would they only give you local anaesthetics?

That should be enough to take away the pain I think. I was given local anaesthetics the first time I had Botox and I didn't feel anything...

The reason I ask is because my surgery is Monday and I don't feel well at all, but I NEED that surgery... Maybe surgery without GA could be an option...

2nd LIS and my anal fissure story with a happy ending

I have been suffering from an anal fissure since early 2006. Like many AF sufferers I had good, bad and very very bad times. I did everything right to try to heal it, high fiber diet, drinking a lot of water, no caffeine, no alcohol, but little things like working out would set me back in AF hell.

I went to see a GI and he confirmed that it was an AF and gave me nitro to try to heal it. It was almost next to impossible to find a pharmacy that would fill it. One place even demanded ...

Hey Here I am buddies……

Ok here goes... I arrived at 8am had a long wait as I was last on the list but I did get to chat to my surgeon twice which was good I asked all questions that had been playing on my mind….

LIS was discussed and he thought as I am young he didnt want to run the risk of incontinence…..Fairplay !

So we agreed on a stretch and possible removal of tag….he then came back half an hour later and said he had found some Botox in the fridge and would I like to try that!!

He ...

Hey, everyone. It's been a looooooong time since I posted here, but I wanted to update everyone now that enough time has passed and I can confidently say that I'm healed. I did it through Botox and Lactulose.

MY STORY:

I noticed minor bleeding for about 2 years. It was misdiagnosed a couple times (as hemorrhoids and then psoriasis). I didn't give it much thought because it didn't bother me much. Then by 2007, I started noticing more bleeding, and finally one day got really constipated ...
