Hello All!

I can't say how happy I am to find this support board. I really am struggling with the pain of my AF but reading all of the great advice on here is really just, well, a huge relief! I'm generally very healthy, have a full life and enjoy doing lots of exercise. Just can't believe how struck down in pain I am though.

I've read some of the general information stickys but I have a few questions which I'd be hugely grateful if anyone could answer...

One day in late August, I started having sharp pain during BMs and intense dull pain that would peak about three hours later and only get tolerable about six hours after that. I started taking stool softeners (Docusate Sodium), eating lots of fiber, drinking lots of water, taking warm baths, and using Prep-H and even K-Y before BMs, but the situation didn't seem to improve. It took me over two weeks to get in to see a specialist, during which I could hardly function because of the discomfort. ...

I was sexually assaulted back in January of 09 and subsequently developed an anal fissure, I in fact remember (I think) when it actually tore. It was strange because I had no pain until April 09, after which I became EXTREMELY worried and had a colonoscopy/endoscopy. My doctor never actually saw the fissure, however I was prescribed nitro ointment and it has been very effective as it has an immediate effect on whatever pain I have. I seem to have only mild (in comparison) symptoms and rarely ...

Hi, I've read a lot of posting of people dealing with fissure pain for months, and I can not imagine living with this pain much longer. I'm a normal 43 yr old woman with 2 kids. Hemorroids started with childbirth and though a couple of really painful flareups over the years, nothing I didn't feel was manageable. about 6 weeks ago, I began having unbearable pain, saw a few doctors and eventually ended up with a Surgeon, who, based on my comments, thought I must have a fissure and scheduled surgery ...

So i've been dealing with this whole AF thing since early april. It came to a boil in july and have been to the doc a few times.

i had some internal hemorrhoids taken care of but the itching and burning wasnt going away. Ive been on three different creams. a pink one, a hydrocortisone and a nitrate. none have worked and the area has become more irritated and worse than when it started.

after getting a clean bill of health from my colonoscopy we now are concentrating on the AF(s).

Briefly, I have had a chronic fissure for about 20 months and have had two lots of LIS surgery, one 12 months ago and the other 7 months ago. While the second one resulted in the sphincter muscle becoming more relaxed, I still get pain for most of the day, paricularly when walking. I'm still trying to figure out how did I get this wonderful malady - I've always been regular and very rarely constipated. I had 2 babies within 2 years and developed what I thought were hemorrhoids, but when I finally went to a CRS a couple of months ...

I take one dose of miralax and eat more fiberous foods than a giraffe, and my stools have been nice and soft and I haven't bled for a week, and the pain during and after BM is very mild. I just got a bottle of nifedipine. so that should help out too.

My questions now are:

Does the Miralax ever lose its effect and force the user to "up" the dosage? and also, what does the nifedipine help with?

one more thing... Yesterday my doc told me that one of ...

I have been suffering with an Anal Fissure since the birth of my son 8 months ago. After several trips to the docs and countless suppositories later, I was final referred to the surgeon in June. M first visit he sent me home with rectogesic..... which I didn't really feel made any difference! After my follow up appointment I got sent home with Anoheal which I am currently using. Have been using it for nearly a week and don't feel its making a difference either.

Hello All,

I'm really happy to have found this website...it's so hard to get feedback from people who actually suffer from this damned problem.

I have suffered from an Anal fissure for the last 4 years. Unfortunately I had been constantly been mis-diagnosed by my GP with haemmoiroids for the first 3 years. The pain would come and go and I told myself that I hadn't been as vigilant as I should have been when I had a bad bowel movement.

Eventually I got reffered to a Proctology ...

Hello,

New to the forum here, and relatively new to anal fissures. Mine started a bit more than a month ago after taking antibiotics for about 3 weeks. I'd always had very loose stools in the past. In fact, for the last 15 years of my life, doctors always told me that I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome because my stools were so loose. But they never caused me any problems except some hemmorhoids and the associated itching/burning and occasional minor bleeding. Then I got diagnosed with ...

I am in a significant amount of pain currently - but it is very different from when i first got the fissure about a year ago. Currently i have pain just under my tailbone just above my butt crack. I know TMI - but that was the best way to describe the location :0). It feels very sore and very hard to sit down in a chair without leaning to one side or the other. Before the terrible BM I did have some discomfort and always some blood spotting on TP but I never felt bad. Anyway he told me surgery was the way to go.
Hi all,

I have a digestive disorder that makes me have frequent diarrhea about 5-10 times per day when it is at its most medically managed; this cannot be changed at this time. I cannot do the typical fiber recommendation.

Because of that and a very tight sphincter I developed chronic non-healing anal fissures as well as a hemhorroid. They do not bleed much but they often hurt a lot. I sometimes feel it has ruined my life.

I have been trying to treat the fissures since Oct 2008. ...

New to the forum. I've been suffering from a bad fissure for the past 6 months. It has been the worst experience of my life as many of you understand. I had a fissurectomy and hemmoroidectomy almost 7 weeks ago and am finally starting to feel human again. I am still not 100%; not sure if I'm not dealing well with the surgery or my issues were not resolved from the surgery. I was at the Dr. friday and I couldn't handle his exam so he had to stop. He said I should be okay this far ...

Sorry, I meant to post this under my other thread and made a new one by mistake. I couldn't figure out how to delete.

BMs aren't terrible, there isn't that tearing and ripping sensation I had with the fissure anyway. The spasms have also really mellowed. Now it is just this constant feeling of an injury on the mend, that seems to be taking forever. It's good to hear these things can take a lot of time, or I should say it is good to at least hear I may be normal.

It started hurting in the waiting room and then when I was pre-op I couldn't help but shift around a lot. The surgeon and anesthesiologist both notcied and asked if I was in pain. Long story short....I developed my fissure in December of last year. I had no idea what it was and thought it was hemmies from my pregnancy two years ago. I was misdiagnosed twice, then given proctofoam and analpram, neither of which worked. I was told I would be fine in a week (!) and that it was no big deal. After a month, I went to see a CRS as my mom (nurse) told me to. He was noncholant about it as well and gave me a nitro gel (headaches). He ...

Hi All

I found this forum about 5 days ago and was so happy. I tried to register about 4 times and it kept saying no new people were allowed. I was very disappointed. But I thought I would try one more time and look here I am. YEAH!!!!!! I was really wanting some support as I underwent the dreaded LIS yesterday and I was sooo scared. Somehow I made it though and am now in search of an answer to my lastest question. My suffering was quite severe and the pain from the spasms lasted from ...

Hello out there. I stumbled on this website last night. 72 hours ago I had a

fissurectomy and LIS. I have learned SO MUCH, by reading everyone's experiences.

found out:

my hip pain was due to the poisition I was in during surgery

my crying is a side affect of pain meds.

trying to reduce my meds caused my pain to take over last night, I'm now back on 2 meds every four hours (along with colace and senekot)

I now take ibuprophen inbetween pain pills

the pain is worse than childbirth ...

New to forum, Glad to see there is a place to talk, and get support. A little about myself, I am a 31 year old male, I have had an issue for about 3 years off and on. In the past year it has gotten worse, I am sure not as bad as some and worse then others. But when you have an anal fissure it's all bad plain and simple!!

I have been given hydrocortsone cream by the Doctor, that worked for a period of time, now it seems back to square one.

The only thing that seems to work for me is a very ...

Hi,

so happy to finally come across a forum to share the pain and agony of chronic a/f.

I have had mine for 10 months since the birth of my son and have tried all sorts of treatment. Nothing so far has worked.

Becoming a teetotal vegetarian and also omitting wheat and cows produce has helped but dinner invitations and nights out no longer so fun.

I am awaiting botox - and wondered how other people had got on with it. Hear that in many cases fissure comes back after botox has ...

I have been dealing with a fissure for over 15 yrs. Seems to have flared up again and been causing LOTS of pain now for 2 months. The cortisone suppositories aren't doing any good at this point. It nice to read that others have the spasms. That is the most painful for me, doesn't seem to ever relax. I have an appt in 3 days with the colon rectal dr. I wasn't sure about the spasms, was hard to explain to my hubby why I was in tears after a BM and curling up in a ball until the pain passed. ...

Hi,

I'm new here, but the fissure is not new. Last May I had a routine colonoscopy, they found no polyps but I woke up with a fissure. I didn't know what it was at first since I had never had anything like it before, when I went to the doctor for the follow-up to the colonoscopy, he did a digital exam and said I had a fissure. About 12 hours after the doctor appointment, I had an abscess from the fissure. I went to emergency to get it treated and was prescribed broad antibiotics which healed ...

Hi my name is Lee. I am so happy to have found a group of people who I can talk to about AF, who know exactly what I am talking about, and just how horrible this whole thing is. I have had fissures on and off for about 12 years now, and they all have happened after a bout of diahorea. Which didn't make sense to me at first but learnt from my doctor that half of people who get fissures are due to diahorea. I had the surgery 1 year and six months ago after an extremely painful fissure that left ...
