Hey all,

So I'm getting an abdominal and pelvic CT scan with contrast on Friday. The contrast material is a big bottle of barium sulfate. Does any have experience drinking (and more to the point, passing) barium sulfate while having an active fissure?

I drank barium sulfate for an upper GI test over ten years ago and remember pooping it out as hard chalky stuff, so I'm a little concerned. But my memory is a bit fuzzy on the details as I didn't have a fissure at that time.

I've only been dealing with the chronic anal pain for about 6 weeks now- though it seems a lifetime... I was really looking forward to surgery last week to give me some relief. didn't find any fissure! I've been home, mostly in bed, with serious pain since. Yesterday I felt like I might be improving, but then this morning had a painful BM and am down for the day..

Well just thought I'd follow up and let you folks know how my colonoscopy went -- in a nutshell, it was incomplete, so I'm pretty bummed.

I went in, they put the IV in and administered Versed and Fentanyl, both of which I've had for other conscious sedation procedures before, so I was feeling pretty comfortable at that point. I largely conked out due to the sedative and didn't feel the doctor pump air into my colon or insert the endoscope. So far so good. Then, at some later point (felt ...

So I thought my fissure was calming down for a while, but lately it's been acting up again -- some pain and bright red bleeding during BMs (relatively minor but consistent and noticeable) has returned. I'm not sure if it's acting up due to recent dietary changes (more junk foods) or drug regimen changes (I stopped all nitro/nifedipine ointments for a week and have been reducing my Valium dosage because I noticed that I'm becoming dependent on it), but whatever the reason, it's got ...

Hi all,

I just got two Botox injections today and my CRS did it without sedating me. All she did was put some topical analgesic around the area first. It wasn't done in an operating room, either, just in the doctor's office.

I did some reading through the archives and this seems atypical. It seems that most people were sedated for the procedure and had it done in the operating room.

Has anyone ever gotten Botox injections without being sedated first? I'm curious as to whether ...

So i think i have done everything to keep my stools soft. Now my problem is though my stools are soft and i no longer see any blood(for nearly a month) i still feel a dull aching pain in the inner walls of the anus. The pain is not just in the rectum where we usually have a tear, its just internal as though the skin inside in scarred(but ...

Hey guys, this is mostly a question for those of you who have used either nitroglycerin or nifedipine for your fissure: has either one ever caused hypotension for you?

The reason I ask is, I've been taking Valium and either nitroglycerin or nifedipine (never both in the same day) for my fissure for a few months. I'm tapering off the Valium now though as it's beginning to be habit forming. So the Valium dose is pretty low at just 2.5 mg per day now. But even with that dose of Valium and ...

Hi, I had a retear a few weeks ago and seem to be on the mend, at least I hope. Yesterday while I was out shopping I got this sudden pain in the butt on the left side. It wasn't like the fissure pain but felt more like I got punched in the butt, it was like a throbbing ache. I went to the restroom and used a little nitro and in a few minutes it subsided but I'm not sure what it was. I was wondering if it could have been caused by gassiness. I increased my benefiber and it sometimes makes you ...

I just saw a colorectal surgeon who prescribed me the following for my fissure:

* Ointment consisting of nitroglycerin, lidocaine, and hydrocortisone

Has anyone here tried any of these or is familiar with them? I'm specifically interested in the hydrocortisone and Valium. I'd always heard that hydrocortisone shouldn't be used for fissures, and I haven't heard too much about using Valium either (the doctor suggested this because she says my sphincter spasm ...

I've been using this technique for the past four days now and it works great for me so I figured I'd share it here.while I'm sitting in the tub i'd practice exhaling breathing exercises,I would close my eyes and picture in my head that my sphincter is loosening up when I exhale,at the same time I would relax my sphincter. When I get out of the tub I would usually feel so loose down there that a few times I would even let a angel gas rip afterwards because my sphincter is so relaxed.I don't know ...

my doctor prescribed me with hydrocortisone cream usp,2.5% and I've been using it 3 times a day after sitz baths and BM's but I read somewhere in these boards(forgot where)that its not good to use it.I've been using it now for the past five months but I don't think its helping me,atleast as far as the healing goes but it does sooth me right after BM's.Should I keep using it or should I stop and why?

I just bought this cushion usually used for sporting events. It has this plastic liner you heat in the microwave and then insert it back in the cushion. It's nice and warm and I use it to help relax the butt muscles. It's great. You can take it anywhere with you and it doesn't cost much. The cushion is called LAVA BUNS, I know it sounds silly but it's better than a heating pad and you don't have to worry about burning yourself. When you have an uncomfortable bm it really helps relax everything ...

Ok so lately I've been eating lots of veggie soup, taking Miralax dutifully, taking Valium, and using both nifedipine and nitroglycerin (on different days) for my fissure. It seems to have been somewhat successful in that my stool is soft and frozen yogurt like most of the time (you're welcome for the imagery ) and bowel movements are usually only mildly painful to moderately uncomfortable. No screaming pain for a few days now. Once in a while a hard poop comes along just to mess with me and ...

Hey all...I have my first follow-up today. The surgery was 3 weeks ago tomorrow. I felt completely normal and was off all pain meds Friday and Saturday..but Sunday the wound area started hurting a tad. Seems to do this after times that I have more than 1 bm in a short time period (which with IBS, is going to be most of the time!)..must be from the constant irritation and painstaking clean up.... anyway, it's bearable and I still haven't taken any pain meds, just toughing it out. The incision ...

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but have been suffering with an anal fissure for the past 4 weeks. It's what I assume is your typical anal fissure, complete with the insane "like passing broken glass" pain and bleeding during every bowel movement. At times, following a bowel movement, it feels like my sphincter is still pushing uncontrollably like I'm still having a bowel movement, and there's an associated highly uncomfortable throbbing pain that lasts through the entire day (I ...

I first had a fissure then an abscess. the dr. made the abscess drain some in office then we decided to do the LIS . After two weeks of waiting on surgery because of one delay or another

The dr. said that it may feel healed on the outside but that it would not heal on the inside and i needed the surgery... i still havent done surgery. I still have pus coming out of my bottom where the abscess is or was... Is this normal, ...
