| | I just had a thought--the musous might be caused by a stomach bug. I had an episode a few months ago where I passed a bit of mucous and then no more. I just focused on a high soluable fiber diet and was fine the next day. |

| I know what you mean, if I take Advil more than a few days, my stomach really bothers me. That is why I took the darvocet, but the Dr. doesn't think I need it anymore and they don't want to give me anymore. It annoys me because I really was very conservative about taking them and they did last me quite awhile. Tylenol doesn't seem to do anything. |

| I think mucus just indicates irritation. I remember when my son had that years ago as a child. The doc said not to worry about it. I really don't even remember what it looked like as that was long ago!!

| Thanks everyone!
Well, I just got back from my appointment and the doctor thought my rectum did look mucusy. He said that he thinks it is a normal healing process (for some people) from the hemmie removals. He says my fissure looks 50% healed. However, I am not that optimistic. I know from reading posts on the board that it takes 4 months to reach 40% healed - which I am almost there!
One bad thing about the appointment was I got a 3rd and unexpected banding done today. He said one hemmie was still there and needed a second banding. Thats ok though - I am glad I am getting all those hemmies out of there!!! I agree with Lecia - lets walk on all fours!
I agree with all you ladies - my hubby has to be sick of hearing about my butt. It pretty much took over our lives for the past year. I now keep my butt venting to the board alone. My husband is supportive and caring, but he will never know the pain that I have gone through - mentally and physically. Thats why I am so glad to have my internet buddies!
Jo - The Lilacs are not mine - I wish they were! I live in a desert and we dont have them here! They are my favorite flowers - very pretty and smell even nicer! |

| Hopefully, this will do it for ya, Jen. when I get irritated intestinal lining I take a huge dollup pf slippery elm bark, basically a heaping tablespoon full in a cup of hot water. It turns into a goo, but it really does the trick for me. Perhpas it would help you too??
have you tried california lilac--ceanothis--there are three varieties, 2 bushy kinds and a crawling kind. they do well in so cal--the tolerate scorching heat well so long as they have water. the flowers are smaller but they are lovely. here's a pic--http://members.shaw.ca/pctpictures2/ceanothusVictoria.htm |

| Jen,
Glad to hear your appointment went well and you are well on your way to healing. Sorry to hear about the banding. Anything with hemmie removal scares :pale: me now after my surgery.
I love lilacs also, I planted two several years ago. They should be blooming in the next week here. Hope I'll be able to smell them with this cold I just got, I can't really breath very well. Wish you could have some where you live. At least you get to enjoy nice winters!! We've had a cold spring here.

| I had a couple of thoughts--all husbands are probably like mine and tire of hearing about our butts and digestive issues. But also in one of my books it states that fissures and hemrroids are more common in persons under stress (i.e. students while going through finals and other similar situations). If we can all RELAX, possibly that will help. Maybe it is a vicious circle--we have a butt and/or digestive problem, we stress about it (what treatment to take, which doc is correct, etc.), then we have more physical problems, and then the cycle starts again. Just a thought to try to help everyone stay positive, and I have trouble with that myself at times.
To everyone's good health,
Cheryl K. |

| hi jen,
maybe your butt has a cold :-) time for some chicken soup.....
i don't have experience with mucus either in the butt area. i would just think you would want to keep it clean and avoid infection down there in between toilet visits.
take care..... _________________ the marathon is on oct 26....just right around the corner....... yikes! |

| What benefits does slippery elm bark have? Where do you buy it?
I wish I would have know about the california lilacs a month ago - we just landscaped our back yard - desert landscaping of corse, but we do have several palms and assorted plants. DANG!!! |

| Thanks Val & Tabby! I hope your feeling well also!
I had another passing of mucus. There was more blood than usual init this time. Does anyone think this could be an infection/fistula?
Jo - Did you docotr say the mucus was normal for you after your surgery? |

| Hi Jen, They didn't seem concerned at all, like it was to be expected. I had mucus, blood, and some drainage from the wounds for several months. I think it was the surgical sites kind of draining and trying to heal. I had to wear pads up by my butt for months! At least I don't have to do that anymore!
Maybe your rubber band site is kind of draining and forming mucus. Your Dr. didn't seem to think it was abnormal did he?

| Slippery elm soothes mucous membranes. It was the only thing that would stop my sore throats from hurting when I was a kid. Making it into a porridge allows it to get to the intestinal lining. I's mix some honey into it. You can get it at any healthfood store. |
