PostSubject: nitro question   June 27th 2008, 3:01 pm

the instructions with the nitro says it has to be applied internally. Is this imperative or can it be just rubbed on like the diltiazem? I found when I just rubbed it on I got a crashing headache- is that why?

thanks!

Val buddy huggies ,
I am so sorry that you still have to deal with so much pain Crying or Very sad !!! Did antibiotic help at all ? Maybe you need a different one Sad ? Did you ever got hold of your CRS ?I really hope that you will start getting better very soon
comfort sprinkleheart

I used Nitro for 3 months I think - I used it always outside, no rubbing in. My CRS told me that there is no reason to put it inside since it is readily absorbed through the skin. I know for a fact that it is true since my friend was treated with Nitro cream patch for heart problems. Headache is most common side effect and it is just telling you that it is working ; ). I would get mild headache immediately after application and it would go away soon after. If not, I would take Tylenol - it helped with fissure pain anyway too, and it is such benign medicine, as you already know. It is safe even for pregnant women and it says it all.

I hope that this was of any help and I wish you super fast healing smileyhug

Hold up, the diltiazem is only meant to be rubbed on the anus itself? I've been using it like the Nitro-ointment.

The nitro-ointment (Rectogesic) leaflet says to insert the ointment saturated finger to the first knuckle on the finger. I have applied the diltiazem in the exact same way.

I got the Anoheal (diltiazem) on special order in the UK in about 2 days from its request at my pharmacist here in London. It was made up very quickly, the packaging makes no reference to Anoheal and is made by Thame Laboratories. It came with no leaflet.

What is the best way to apply the diltiazem (2%). I haven't incurred any problems with the one greased finger disappearing act and diltiazem, but if anyone with experience can suggest the 'correct' way to do it, then please inform me.

When I use the GTN ointment I slap it on the top of my finger, up it goes, a little wiggle and a jiggle - wait for the headache and then I know its doing its thing.

Val -

Every CRS has different opinions about this. My fist CRS wanted me to put the cream on externally. My second CRS wanted me to insert it internally. I have tried both methods, and I have to say that I think it works way better if it is inserted internally. I use a finger cot (like a finger condom) to do this.

I have never got a headachce from the nitro, but then again, I really never get headachces. Tylenol is safe to take during pregnancy and should work.

My CRS also told me he prescribes nitro to pregnant women - I was shocked, but he says it is totally safe.

Lots of Love,
Jen

I used nitro when I had a sphincter spasm just on the outside. I tried it inside and it was like a hellfire in my @rse! I never got headaches with it though but I found it too strong which makes me think it could be very effective if it can be tolerated.

Sorry things are so rough for you. You deserve better!

Val
I tried the Nitro inside and experienced hell fire burning pain. It healed up the fissure but i couldnt stand the burning in the rectum. I didnt get headaches. It works but didnt do much for the pain. Just my experience.

I am in the same boat as you. I didnt know what i did in my past life to deserve this pain. Its the worst. I was on the road to recovery for 4 months after getting back from China then bam I got off my diet and one high stress week came after that and it came back but deep. This one feels different. It feels real deep. Hurts real bad after every BM. Very debilitating.

The doctors are still giving me a fifty fifty shot that the surgery will work due to a bad case of IBS. I having trouble as it is making it just in time to the toilet. These two docs just shack their head and say..its your choice. I decide to do botox but the docs are not that trilled about recovering from it or getting healed. I think if the stress slowed down i can heal again.

Take Care Val. You know where i am. Let me know if you need anything.

Bernard,

Have you tried any type of mind/body work to help deal with your stress which is horrible for IBS--deep breathing, excercise, visualizations, etc.? I have IBS also, so can understand some of what you are experiencing. I posted an article on IBS on the board several weeks ago.

Brendon- the instructions in my diltiazem said just to rub it on, and it did work its just that I developed a sensitivity to it- hence the nitro.

thanks Jen and Lecia. Before my LIS when I first got the fissure I was given nitro and it burned like hell, so I was VERY reluctant to try it again, but it didnt burn so bad this time, just made my head feel like a volcano erupting!

thanks Bernard. I'm so sorry you're going through such a bad time again. I hope your doctor can think of something to help you without causing problems with your IBS. Good luck !

Yeah, I am so sorry to hear of your setback, Bernard. You will get back to where you were though before your trip. It is hard to be so peristent when it just keeps happening over and over again. I know how frustrating it is when you feel like the doctors are at a loss. I have some doctors who want to help but I have had to come up with all the suggestions.

Have you tried the Digestive Advantage for IBS? I wonder if that would help you. Check it out on drugstore.com or amazon.com as it got lots of good reviews.

Hang in there!

when i used it i crammed as much as i could in there,i used the 2% and it worked great in relaxing the muscle, the burning seemed to lessen the more i used it as did the headaches, but i would still get them for like 45 mins or so.mine said to use 3 times a day,i used twice the amount like 5-6 times a day, things were really loose down there, had to get a few refills,he started questioning about where it was going and got all concerned like i was selling it to street thugs, when he asked again where it all went so fast...i said "in my ass..." i always kept the mood light ya know, after a laugh or 2,he gave me more refills,it seemed to work for me,alot better inside than just rubbing it around the rear, but i hear it does absorb, just not as fast.....

Dano you are funny! I always think how you used the nitro twice as much as your doctor told you to and I want to do that too, but I am scared that too many vessels will dilate down there and something really bad will happen to me. I also want to try to mix my nitro and nifedipine but I am afraid some terrible chemiccal reaction will occur on my butt - I wish I could have our compounding specialist (Yes thats you Fissy) whip something up for me! She's not afraid to mix anything in her lab! Smile

Wow Fiss - 4% nitro! That stuff is used in explosive devices! yeehar

My nitro bottle says .13% on it - maybe that means 1.3%??? I don't know - its seams to be working well. I wish I could use it more often - I am just so scared to use it more than I should.
