Guys and gals,

I think there was a thread previously about what a sphincter spasm feels like. But I am wondering if a person feels a spasm, does that mean that the fissure is not healed? I think I had one this morning while getting stressed during a visit with my son. I laid down and did deep breathing and it stopped. I don't know if spasms contribute to causing fissures, or do spasms occur after one has a fissure. I believe my fissure is healing (knock wood), but possibly not yet completely healed. Appreciate any feedback from all of you smart and experienced people.

Cheryl

the sphincter goes into spasm to try to protect itself. It knows its injured so its like us curling up when we feel threatened!

So there has to be an injury, or "threat" there for it to do that. By tightening up like it does, it actually prevents itself from healing as it constricts the blood flow to the area, and then the fissure cant heal. Thats why the creams help, they relax the muscle to promote blood flow to aid healing.
