| I am a new member--a 62 year old female with a fissue being treated with ointment from a rectal surgeon. I look forward to conversing with others in a similar situation. Thanks for any support and help.

These boards are wonderful - lots of good support & information.
What ointment are you using? How long have you had your fissure?

| Hi Cheryl,
Sorry to hear you are suffering. Hope the ointment works for you soon.
This has been a great place to find info and get support.
I have been suffering with a fissure from hemmroid surgery about 11+ weeks ago. Hoping the Nifidine ointment will work for me, if not I will be getting botox.
Take care, Jo |

| I am on bethanechol/diltiazem ointment. Have been on it for about a week. I also have IBS which is what caused my fissure, I think. Found no relief from chronic constipation for the past 7 years until a Mayo doctor put me on Miralax last year. It is difficult for me to regulate the amount of Miralax to take at times. Thank you for all of the wonderful comments/replies. Looking forward to continuing with the group posts.

| It should take the diltiazem a couple weeks to start to kick in afor you to feel the relief it hopefully will provide, so stick with it! Good luck! _________________

| hi Cheryl, sorry you're having to go through this. I found the diltiazem really helped with the pain. Hopefully yours will heal with it. If you need help, just ask! |

| Cheryl, I also am taking miralax and it has helped ALOT with constipation, I missed one day this week and am really paying for it today. :pale: Ouch! It is a struggle to get the right amount.
Last week I had my first appointment at Mayo. Did you like your Dr.? I think my Dr. seemed pretty good, feeling much better about him than the last guy I saw somewhere else. The assisting doc was really nice and helpful, possibly an intern or med student. |

That's probably a dead give-away that they were interns! _________________

| Ha! I think she will make a wonderful doc someday! Don't think I can wait that long.
Far better than some I've seen, or does something happen to them when they are finally on their own? |

| hi cheryl - welcome to the board! i'm sorry you're suffering
This forum is a great place to find out more info and talk about everything w/ fellow fissure sufferers. I hope you find some relief w/ the ointment. I'm sure miralax will help too, so many people on the board use it regularly. |

| Thanks to all for the welcoming comments that I just read! I really, really liked my Mayo GI doc (in response to a question someone asked). I think he is one of the smartest docs I have ever met. I went through so much testing in my area (CT scan, BARIUM test, MRI, flex sig) and still wasn't making much progress a year ago with my abdominal pain. I was convinced I had diverticulitis.
I think the MIralax is what I should been taking years ago although it is somewhat difficult to regulate. I used to take Amitizia (and before that Zelnorm) and also Magnesium glyconate tabs plus a stool softerner prior to switching to MIralax. Hopefully, we can all continue to support one another and sending healing energy when requested (I am a Reiki master, but don't practice on others). |
