woke up with swollen left butt cheek

Post by derryboy on December 9th 2009, 9:44 am

this morning i woke and had a piniching feeling in my left butt cheek,

i checked with a mirror(something i never do) and i thought mmmm it looks slightly swollen,

so called my g.p and am just back and he comfirms a slight swelling on my left butt cheek,

he says it not near where my laid open fistula was done,

but closer to where the abcess wound is, but still a fair bit away,

he said its not red looking, or hot to touch

he said it could be either just a buid up of fluid

or a start of infection in my butt cheek

its not painful (well not at the moment) just a pinching feeling

he gave me nothing and told me to keep an eye on things and come back in jan

if the swelling was still there

any heard of this, ive not done nothing to causing swelling

things were going well to just cant undertand why all of a sudden over night bang i wake up wth a swollen butt cheek

Sounds like it might be the start of an infection, it could even be caused by a small pimple. I'm really surprised he didn't start you on an antibiotic. It might also be a muscle spasm, have you bumped into anything lately. Trying soaking in the tub a few times a day if you can. Otherwise if it starts to hurt don't wait until january, call your doc right away.

thanks suzyljank, its not a pimple(i should`ve said that the gp ruled that out), its swollen on the lower left buttock towards the right hand side of the left buttock. its no bigger this morning.

i have not bumpped into anything of late, its soft to touch with no pain or leakage, its just there

he never even suggest antibiotics, but as i said its on the righ handside of my left buttock so sometimes if feels i have something wedge between my lower butt cheeks depends on the way i lie down or sit

just so weird this has came from no where

but thanks for the reply

hope your ok

well this afternoon the swelling got slighty bigger and it was a lot more nipping/stinging.

manage to get my g.p to talk to me on the phone, 5 mins ago,

he says come in tomorrow @ 9 am and he will have another loook and if need be send me through to hospital to see whatever crs is on. its still soft infact you can press down to my butt bone but sorer than what it was.

he says it might be left and crs put me on Anti.Bi`s, but also said they might send me for mri scan there and then, and if needed place a drain in for 24 hrs to collect any fluid thats there, to see what kind of fluid it is. dunno

so i have to take an over night bag incase off...

as you can imagine very %$%$$%$ off

Mad

Well i am back home...

He the gp says it does look like it could be an infection, but it's not really possible to tell as the swelling is not hard but more of and air bubble type swelling, and as its not to painful to press down on etc, i have to just follow his advice and wait, as there is not really much he can do.

He said theres no point in antibiotics at this stage. i go back on wednesday for a check , should i get worse over the weekend just go to my health centre, which ok is fine.. but id like to see him drive 3 miles with a swollen sore butt should it become that way.

over the pond you might have to pay out for med insurance, but at least you seem to get treated better and far quicker than u do over in the uk by our free nhs

but i guess over the pond there will be horror storys to tell as well.

Hey Dazzy,

From what I can make out amitriptyline does seem to be an antidepressant too. Looks like it's the tricyclic kind that was used widely before SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) were developed. I've taken SSRIs in the past before but never tricyclics.

It seems weird that your doc would give it to you for butt problems. Maybe he's prescribing it for some kind of off-label use?

BTW just curious, through NHS do you get to pick your physician? Or does one get assigned to you? I definitely have some horror stories about docs here in the States. But the good thing is if I don't like one doc, I just see another. In fact I've seen a couple of doctors in the last few days for my ongoing chest pain... I'm determined to get to the bottom of it no matter how many physicians I have to see! I'm sure there are pros and cons of each system. As they say, the grass is always greener Razz

getting sent to hospital... the gp rang and spoke to mr smiths sec, she put me in for an open appt next thursday .... swelling still there no bigger, pain wise pretty muc the same. gp said it could be fluid gathered after the abcess op, or where it is another fistula channle, but when he pushed down on the swelling there was no fluid etc coming out from anywhere... so he cant be sure....

so next thursday..... hoping its just fluid as the gp said fluid after any op is normal.... but just mine aint drained... if thats the case he reckons i might need to be in hospital a couple of days with a drain tube .... he said its nothing to worry about i get a local A in my butt and put the drain in, which then leads to a bag to catch the fluid so it can be tested etc for infections etc.....

i did try and get more anti -b`s but since theres been no change he refused them....

see what next thursday brings... dont know if its mrs smith or one of his team though... hoping its mr smith.. he knows my butt lol....

Re: woke up with swollen left butt cheek

Post by derryboy on January 11th 2010, 2:18 pm

well gp said he thought it could be 1 of 3 things groan

`1. tissue healing/healed and the way its settled in my buttock after my op
2, fluid cause after the fistula op
3, another abcess but because where it is its not go hard and bursting, rather its just flowing through my butt dunno

so he faxed mr smiths sec there and then and refered me as urgent referal.. so he says he`d hope i`d been see with 3 weeks or less depending on mr smiths list.

no anti-biotics as again no point cuz he cant say if an infection is present..
if it is just tissue, ...well i`ll haee to learn to live with it..

if fluid id have to get it drained, by getting a local.A and then some sort of drain stiched into my buttock

if fstula then back to last yr, opening me up cleaning out, packing again frusty groan
