Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
I've been keeping to a fairly strict diet lately with absolutely NO dairy but I just miss other foods that I used to eat, I guess it's just the blandness of my diet or am I just totally fed up of eating fibre fibre wholemeal and fibre, I crave for the foods that I could once eat, anyway cut to the chase, i'm about to eat a yogurt (Onken Biopot) it's made with live bio cultures which are supposed to be healthy for the gut, could this help to heal me
anyway i'm giving it a shot at the risk of having a different consistency of BM tomorrow, I would appreciate it if anyone else can vouch for yogurts messing up their BM's
FYI, here's what the live bio cultures in the yogurt are:
~Live Bio Cultures inside~
Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum
~Live Cultures inside~
Streptococcus thermophilus
More about these cultures can be found here: http://www.truestarhealth.com/Notes/2901004.html
I figured anything is worth a try, these guys sound good!

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
I tried eating probiotic yogurts with acidophilus and other bacteria that were supposedly beneficial for the digestive tract, along with probiotic pills early on during my fissure fun and it didn't seem to make much of a difference for me over the couple of months that I tried it
I don't tolerate dairy well to begin with though. It didn't do much for me except make me poop a bit more haha. If you're okay with dairy in general then I don't see what harm it can do though. It seems doubtful that yogurt would be constipating so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
Thanks NG, I just don't want to have a dodgy BM as so far i've been quite consistent, not only that but I reckon my gut is lacking some of the good bacteria needed because I haven't always eaten good foods and have had antibiotics in the past and know they destroy the good guys in your guts... At this stage though, i'm willing to try anything.

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
I know what you mean, Steve. In fact my own problem with fissures only began after I was on three different antibiotics for over a month to treat chronic sinusitis. The antibiotics first gave me crazy diarrhea, and then they caused constipation, and then eventually I got a nice fissure. The irony is that I still have the sinusitis too, dammit
If I'd known what was going to happen at the time, I would've just lived with the stupid sinusitis...
But yeah I'm sure the yogurt won't hurt. I was a big junk food, fried food, beer, and soda guy in the past too. Since my fissure it's been veggie soup all day every day!
First time I've noticed your avatar BTW, it's hilarious!

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
Hindsight is a terrible thing!! I used to like a beer or two or three and plenty of kebabs, burgers and pizza, if i'd of known then what I know now...
Antibiotics are really bad, like you, they gave me crazy diarrhea then after the 2 week course was over I couldn't go for a BM without straining which did my hemmies no good at all, i'm still struggling with internal hemmies now they are causing me no end of problems as well as the fissure, if I could divorce my ass I would!
My avatar resembles exactly what my ass feels like LOL

LOL cheryl, but I think life would be much easier if we didn't have to poop, I would be happy to have a colostomy bag, they can sew my asshole up for good for all I care

I with you there Steve
Pooping used to be a glorious thing, after the fissure it's just terrifying. How great it would be to be able to stuff yourself full of whatever food your mouth fancied without worrying about what happens when it comes out

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
I spend more time worrying what my BM is going to come out like than I do anything else, long gone are the days where pooping was a pleasure, this whole thing has made me very conscious about what I put in my body and tbh I don't want to live like this forever although it seems like i've been like this for an eternity already

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
Cheryl, I'm not really that tense, infact, when I go to the toilet I relax (despite the pain) I just want it over as quickly as possible but this never happens, I end up spending about 20-30 minutes in there each time I have a BM, it's because I don't feel empty afterwards and the burning sensation just makes things worse, does anyone else feel like they haven't completely finished after BM?

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
I had pelvic floor dysfunction and then took the pelvic floor retraining class at Mayos. That is why I asked about being relaxed. I think taking 20-30 minutes for a BM is rather long! (and not good for the rectal muscles)

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
Yogurt - nothing ever constipated me since I do not tend to constipate - but still - I was on "fissure diet" 100 % and 100% of the time (not that it helped though LMAO) BUT - if you want to be on the safe side - you can mix some fresh fruits in : ))) !!!! Or prune preserve - yum yummmm ; ) OR apricot preserve - even more yummmmm LOL
Neuropathic - I was laughing about your sinus problems since it is exactly what I have now ha ha haaaa- 3 weeks of antibiotics and not MUCH improvement . "Gunk" is gone but they drip and some blood is there - I guess at this point it is chronic
. I now take Flonase since I need to calm down inflammation and it "almost" works - BUT - with pollen season just starting - we are doomed
Also - I was living off veggi-soups LMAO - that was my staple diet during fissure times...
Steve- tension of the body and tension of the anus are the 2 completely separate things. You can be relaxed as a dead earthworm but still have tense anus ! It has nothing to do with each other whatever people tell you ! And who could relax in any way with such a pain - one would need to have lobotomy OR heavy sedation. Some people are naturally tight in that area - anus is smaller then it should be or it is stronger than it should be and for those LIS or dilation are the only help - although I would choose LIS oved dilation any day .
BUT - look at the bright side - you have periods of day with no pain
- I had NONE . My pain was 24/7 - alternating with excruciating pain during pooping and burning and dull pain level 7 after pooping until next pooping ( and I went 4-5 times a day ). So...
Stay strong ; ))) !!!

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
^ LOL Fiss yeah the sinus problems suck. Mine are chronic now too. Sometimes I don't notice it at all, and sometimes I feel like there's a cotton farm stuffing up my nose and my face. Antibiotics took the symptoms down a notch but definitely didn't resolve them. Since they either directly or indirectly led to my fissure, I don't think I'll ever take antibiotics again unless I absolutely have to!
When my sinusitis gets real bad, I use Mucinex and a little nasal irrigation (either a neti pot or Neil Med's Sinus Rinse Bottle) and that usually helps for at least a few hours.
And yeah I've been eating veggie soup for so long now it just feels normal. Every meal of every day is veggie soup. The only non veggie soup item I've been eating lately is sushi since that doesn't make my poop hard
You're exactly where I want to be -- fissure free and eating normal things again. Those days seem like so long ago. What gives me some hope is that after the hell you've been there, you came out okay, so maybe there's some way to eventually get back to normal!

Re: Can biopot yogurt constipate me?
LOL @ the veggie soup, it's become an everyday necessity for me too, along with wholemeal foods and boiled/steamed veg, can't imagine not eating like this at the moment, everything else is on the back burner and will be staying there until i'm completely fissure and rectal pain free, i've forgotten what it's like to go to the toilet normally as there's always been this burning pain, followed by a dull ache which lasts all day/night, not only that but it feels like something is stuck inside my rectum, very uncomfortable.
